On May 26, 2013, William Sterling Walker was awarded the first "Emerging Writer" prize for Desire: Tales of New Orleans from the New Orleans-based Saints and Sinner Literary Festival. The award is sponsored by author Rob Byrnes and was selected by New Orleans literary figure and radio host Susan Larson.
